Yukana Interview
by Pedro Rodriguez
DGH Studios got a chance to attend the press conference for voice actress Yukana at Pacific Media Expo 2007. Here is an edited transcript of the Q & A session.
Is it safe to say that this is your first time here in the U.S.?
I actually spent some time here on the West coast, back in High school.
Mashiro Kazahana and Mashiro Blan de Windbloom have two different personalities, what was your take on it?
In the original series you have actors playing roles. It's kind of recursive in that you an actor playing a role, of someone who is playing a role. In that aspect it's very interesting.
Is there any sort of character, that you would like to see yourself playing?
I don't get that many offers to play the roles of boys, so I would like to try that a little more.
What kind of advice would you give to a a voice actor or actress that is in training?
A lot of people think that voice acting is about cute voices, but the character comes before the voice behind it. So I would like to advise voice actors in to actually learn acting in real life, so that they they know how to act out a character before they apply it.
Since you've lived in Manhattan for a while, was there any opportunity to dub if she was interested?
I actually had one project where it was almost possible, but I couldn't work out the schedule, but hopefully someday I'll have the chance to dub myself in and English project.
Was there any inspiration to become a voice actress?
Whe I was little I was very frail and I couldn't play outside with all the other kids; I always wanted to run around and have fun. I started acting because I was fascinated because you could live out other lives other than your own, but animation tends to be more so because you could take the Earth. (laughing from press) I was lucky enough to pass the audition.
Please note that these are not fully accurate, however, edited transcript of the press conference. A big thanks to PMX and MADHOUSE for the everything!
